Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern.

About This Quote

Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern. The definition of art says it all, but I would like to elaborate on this quote by saying that art is not about beauty, nor is it about an artist’s skill at drawing or painting. It’s about the artist’s ability to capture a feeling or concept in a way that can not be explained. The artists ability to do this is automatic and natural, not something that has to be learned through trial and error.
